Intel unleashed their first desktop processor with 8-cores/16-threads and support of DDR4 memory.

The processor named "Intel® Core™ i7-5960X" is the first processor of the company's to include 8-cores/16-threads as well as DDR4 memory and support of the new chipset X99 which includes up to 40 PCI Express 3.0 lanes. 

The i7-5960X comes with 20MB of L3 cache while each core is clocked at 3GHz which can also run at 3.5GHz with Turbo Boost mode. 

The price tag of this high-end processor is touching the $999 just like other Extreme edition cpu's in the past.
